Like many people, I grew up watching Babe Winkelman hunt and fish. He has been on TV for a long time with his shows Good Fishing and Outdoor Secrets, but recently he has come upon hard times financially. Babe has filed for bankruptcy and will stop production of his show until he gets his finances straightened out.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, Babe Winkelman filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection in federal court March 9. Court documents state that Babe Winkelman Productions grossed $185,240 in 2019, but that business owes $402,280 in trade payables.
Donald Edward Winkleman and his wife, Kristeen Winkleman told the court they have around $1.4 million in assets. That includes their home, hunting land, and personal items, and their liabilities stack up more than $800,000.
“I’ve never been through anything like this in my life,” Babe said. But did not comment further.
I do not think we have seen the last of Babe. Chapter 13 Bankruptcy is different than the more common chapter 7. Chapter 7requires a complete liquidation of all assets, while chapter 13 allows the debtor to keep land and other assets while the debt is restructured paid off over the course of three to five years.
Hopefully, Babe can get back on his feet. I really enjoyed his shows growing up and would love to see him continue them.
